For Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, 2003, Sun & Moon Ensemble collaborated on a production with the group Máscaras Entre Sombras from Mexico. Maria Lexa directed members of the Ensemble in a performance using giant puppets and masks of traditional Día de los Muertos characters created by Colombian artist Alexa Armenta. On November 2, performances took place at South of Market Cultural Center and in front of Brava Theatre in the San Francisco Mission district. After the performances, audience members danced with the performers to the rhythms of the Ensemble musicians.
